Spring Pivot Checklist: What Our Service Manager Recommends

As irrigation season approaches, it’s time to make sure your pivot is ready to roll. A little attention now can save you costly repairs and frustrating downtime later.
Here are a few key items our Service Manager recommends checking this spring:
🚜 Tire Condition & Pressure
Walk each tower and inspect all tires for wear, damage, or low pressure. A flat or worn tire can cause alignment issues and lead to downtime during the season.
🛠️ Gearboxes
Check for any signs of oil leaks and inspect the oil level in each gearbox. Don’t overfill—gearboxes should only be filled to the proper level. Overfilling can blow out the shaft seal.
⚙️ Expansion Diaphragms
Inspect or replace any gearbox expansion diaphragms showing cracks or deterioration. These help prevent moisture or debris from getting inside the gearbox.
🧰 Drive Shaft Shields
Ensure all drive shaft shields are in place and securely fastened. They’re essential for operator safety and often overlooked.
💧 Sprinkler Nozzles & Regulators
Even if they seem functional, nozzles and regulators have an expected lifespan of about 10 years. Check for wear or damage and replace if needed.
🌾 Water Application Efficiency
Worn nozzles and deteriorated regulators can reduce your pivot’s water distribution uniformity. Swapping them out can improve application efficiency and help maintain yields.
Preventive maintenance now means fewer headaches later.
