🔧 Air-Cooled vs. Liquid-Cooled Generators

The training focused on air-cooled Generac units, which are the most commonly used in residential and light commercial applications. These systems differ from liquid-cooled generators, which are much larger and typically reserved for heavy-duty commercial or industrial use.

🛠️ Common Generator Issues

The team learned how to identify and prevent some of the most common issues that can impact generator performance:

Undersized fuel piping – a major cause of fuel supply issues
Low battery voltage – affects startup and overall performance
Wiring damage – often caused by rodents or insects

🧰 Maintenance & Troubleshooting Tips

Routine maintenance is key to getting the most out of your generator:

Clear debris and vegetation from around the unit
Set traps and use pest deterrents to protect wiring
Monitor cycling schedules to ensure the system is running, charging the battery, and self-testing voltage output

⚠️ Transfer Panel Safety

One important reminder: The transfer switch panel always contains live electrical components.

Never reach into the panel with your hands or tools
Use compressed air to clean the panel safely
If you suspect a bigger issue, call a licensed electrician — don’t attempt risky repairs on your own
